Vikings win at MSU Moorhead

BOX SCORE

MOORHEAD, Minn. - Cody Schilling scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Augustana to a 75-61 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over MSU Moorhead Friday night.

Augustana improves to 16-9 (13-8 NSIC), while MSUM drops to 18-7 (14-7 NSIC).

Schilling's 18 points was a game high and was one of four double-figure scoring efforts from a Viking.  Drae Murray had 17, Yuriy Malashenko added 12 and Leif Nomeland scored 11.

Alex Novak's 13 points led the Dragons.

The Vikings outrebounded MSUM 36-27 and nailed 10 3-pointers.  They led by as many as 26 points in the second half.

Augustana drilled seven 3-pointers in the first half, getting three each from Murray and Nomeland.  That shooting was part of a 57.1-percent (16 of 28) performance in the opening 20 minutes.

The Vikings closed the first half on a 15-4 run and led 42-26 at the break.

Murray led all scorers with 11 first-half points.

Augustana had to deal with a Dragon squad that shot nearly 50 percent in the second half, but the improved effort by the hosts didn't cut into the Vikings' advantage as they were ahead by at least 10 points for the remainder of the contest.

Malashenko hit a pair of 3-pointers around with around 10 minutes to play.  His second trey with eight minutes to go gave Augustana its largest lead of the night at 68-42.

MSUM drained a cluster of buckets from behind the arc down the arc down the stretch, but it was a nudge the Vikings easily absorbed.

The win avenged a loss to the Dragons from December.

Schilling's 18 points brought his career total to 1,814. He is now 16 points away from tying Carl Gonder's career scoring mark of 1,830 points.

Augustana plays at Minnesota, Crookston tomorrow at 6 p.m.
