ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Augustana wrapped up the Husky Dome Classic with two wins Sunday, defeating Upper Iowa 10-2 in six innings and Valley City State 10-4.
The Vikings improve to 8-1.
Ashley Meyer started against UIU and gave up two runs in 5.0 innings. She also gave up only six hits and struck out two. Only one of the two runs were earned.
Offensively, the Vikings' victory was keyed by seven hits and six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Chelsey Durland started the inning with a single and was followed by
Chelsi Winskowski's home run.
Jenny Brown then tripled and scored on
Lindsay Spanton's double. Janelle Trautmann then slapped a single. Both Spanton and Trautmann scored on
Theresa McMahon's single.
Kelsey Kalkman then doubled to score McMahon.
The Vikings added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early. Traumann reached on a fielder's choice and
Taylor Kapsch was subbed in to pinch run. Kapsch then scored on
Kelsey Kalkman's double.
Erin Kempf scored the Vikings' final run after being substitued for Kalkman, moving to second on a wild pitch and crossing the plate on Durland's double.
In the second game of the day, Augustana fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first but limited VCSU's chances after that as Trautmann earned the win in the circle. The Vikings also hit four home runs.
In the Vikings' half of the first, Brown reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on Trautmann's home run.
Kalkman led off the bottom of the second with a double then scored on a home run by Kapsch.
McMahon hit the third home run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth, and
Matley Jones followed two batters after with her third home run in two days.
After VCSU made the score 6-3, Augustana put the game away in the sixth as
Elizabeth Murray, Kalkman, Winskowski an Jones all scored.
The Vikings travel to Rochester, Minn. on March 1 to face Winona State in a doubleheader..
