ROCHESTER, Minn. - No. 7 Augustana lost both contests in its doubleheader against No. 17 Winona State Thursday afternoon. The Vikings dropped a 4-1 decision in Game 1 and were defeated 5-2 in Game 2.
WSU improves to 10-1 and Augustana drops to 8-3.
Ashley Meyer took the loss in Game 1 after giving up four runs, all of which were unearned.
Offensively,
Elizabeth Murray was the only Viking to reach home for Augustana in the game. She hit a double to left field in the top of the fifth, and moved around the bases on a walk by
Jenny Brown, a single from
Lindsay Spanton and crossed the plate when
Jenelle Trautmann walked with the bases loaded.
Murray had two hits in the game, as did Trautmann.
In the second game, the Vikings took a first-inning lead when Murray led off the game with a walk, followed by Brown reaching on an error and moving to second on Spanton's ground ball. Murray scored on a sacrifice fly by Trautmann.
Augustana didn't score again until the top of the seventh when Chelsi WInskowski reached on a single and scored from second on
Taylor Kapsch's single to right field.
Trautmann threw 4.2 innings before turning the ball over to
Chelsey Durland in the fifth after giving up five runs (four earned).
The Vikings are on the road again next weekend as they take on Minnesota Duluth in a conference game at Vadnais Heights, Minn.
