KISSIMMEE, Fla. - No. 23 Augustana kicked off its Florida trip with a 7-1 win over Tiffin and a 12-0 win (in five innings) over Lake Erie on day one of the Rebel Spring Classic.
Augustana improves to 12-3 for the season.
Theresa McMahon gave the Vikings an immediate lead in the bottom of the first of game one as she hit a leadoff home run, which was followd by two more runs scored by
Elizabeth Murray and
Jenelle Trautmann, respectively.
McMahon had two runs for the Vikings, while
Brittany Coufal went 2-of-3 and scored a run.
On the mound,
Ashley Meyer picked up her fifth win of the season as she threw 7.0 innings and gave up one run with a season high eight strikeouts.
In the second game of the day, the Vikings put on an offensive showcase, with eight different batters earning 13 hits in the game. Trautmann continued her power hitting with her sixth home run of the season in the third inning and went 3-of-3 with one run and four RBIs.
Taylor Kapsch had two hits with a run, RBI and a stolen base, while
Elissa Reinsma added two hits off the bench when she pinch hit for McMahon then stayed in the game as the designated player.
Trautmann started the game for the Vikings and threw 4.0 shutout innings with five strikeouts and gave up only one hit before
Chelsey Durland came in to finish the game.
Elizabeth Murray finished the day with two doubles, bringing her season count to five.
The Vikings are in Florida for the next five days and will play seven more games.
Augustana will play Tiffin again tomorrow morning at 8 a.m., followed by a matchup with Wayne St. (Mich.) at 10 a.m.
