KISSIMMEE, Fla. - No. 23 Augustana is 4-0 in the Rebel Spring Games after picking up two more wins Friday. The Vikings defeated Tiffin 6-1 then won a close battle against Wayne State (Mich.) 1-0.
Augustana improves to 14-3 for the season.
Jenelle Trautmann started the game against Tiffin and threw 5.0 innings, striking out six before
Chelsey Durland pitched the final 2.0 innings and gave up one run with three strikeouts
The Vikings got going with three singles in a row by
Kelsey Kalkman,
Chelsi Winskowski and
Matley Jones in the bottom of the second before moving around the bases on a passed ball and error to score Durland and WInskowski.
Winskowski and Jones again made their marks on the game in the fourth, when Winskowski's fifth double of the year was followed by Jones' fifth home run.
Jones finished 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Winskowski 2 for 2 with a walk. She also added three runs in the game.
Jenny Brown put together a 2 for 4 performance at the plate, raising her season batting average to .274.
Taylor Kapsch scored the other runs for the Vikings.
Amber Young took the loss for Tiffin and drops to 3-5 on the year.
In Game 2,
Ashley Meyer threw 7.0 shutout innings and gave up only four hits.
The Vikings lone run of the game was scored in the fourth inning by Trautmann, who advanced home on a double by
Chelsey Durland.
Elizabeth Murray was 2 for 2 for the game with a single and a double.
The Vikings continue play in the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow with games against Northwood (Fla.) and Wayne St. (Mich.).
