SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No. 18 Augustana lost 1-0 in Game 1 and held on to win 3-2 in Game 2 against Wayne State on Saturday.
This was the regular season finale for both teams as Augustana celebrated Senior Day and recognized
Chelsey Durland,
Kelsey Kalkman,
Ashley Meyer,
Taylor Kapsch and
Elizabeth Murray.
Augustana moves to 45-8 (22-4 NSIC) while WSU now sits at 27-21 (13-13 NSIC).
Augustana mustered only three hits and stranded five runners in Game 1.
Jenelle Trautmann dropped to 19-5 in the loss after throwing 5.0 innings and giving up just one run.
Murray was a bright spot for the Vikings with a 2 for 3 performance that included her eleventh double of the season.
Augustana threatened in the top of the first when Murray doubled with two outs and again in the fourth when Trautmann reached on an error and moved to second on a passed ball, but both efforts were thwarted by WSC's defense.
WSC's lone run came in the fifth inning when Vicki Nielsen reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Kaiti Williams double.
Ashley Meyer started Game 2 and moved to 21-3 for the season.
Chelsey Durland threw the final 2.0 innings and struck out four to earn the save.
Chelsi Winskowski was 1 for 1 with two walks, a stolen base and three runs in the game.
Lindsay Spanton added two doubles and two RBIs while going 2 for 3.
After WSC's Dani Sandel led off the game with a solo home run, Augustana answered back when Winskowski walked with one out and then stole second base. After Trautmann walked, Spanton drove a 3-1 pitch into center field for a two-out double that scored Winskowsi.
Augustana added another run in the third when Winskowski again walked moved to second on Murray's sacrifice bunt. After Winskowski moved to third on a wild pitch, Trautmann drove her home on a single up the middle.
The Vikings final run came in the fifth when Winskowski singled to shortstop and again moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Murray. Spanton then hit her second double of the game to drive Winskowski home.
Augustana and Wayne State will play in the NSIC conference tournament April 26-28 in Rochester, Minn.
