ST. CLOUD, Minn. - No. 22 Augustana won Game 1 over St. Cloud State 4-2 in a conference doubleheader, then used five solo home runs to power past the Huskies 6-2 in Game 2 on Friday.
Augustana improves to 33-6 (11-3 NSIC) while St. Cloud State drops to 18-20 (4-8 NSIC).
In the second inning of Game 1, St. Cloud's Nicole Steinle broke open the score when she hit a two-run home run to put the Huskies up 2-0 before Augustana answered in the fourth with a run.
Kelsey Kalkman walked with two outs before moving to second on
Chelsey Durland's single up the middle.
Matley Jones then stepped the plate and hit a pop fly to the second baseman that was dropped, allowing Kalkman to cross the plate.
The Vikings took the lead in the fifth on
Jenelle Trautmann's 11th home run of the season.
Theresa McMahon led off the inning with a sharply hit single before moving to second on
Jenny Brown's sacrifice bunt. After
Elizabeth Murray centered, Trautmann hit a towering home run over the left field fence.
McMahon finished Game 1 with a 2 for 4 performace while Kalkman was 1 for 2 with a run and a walk.
Ashley Meyer (15-3) earned the victory and Durland picked up her eighth save of the season.
Game 2 starter
Jenelle Trautmann picked up the victory with 5.0 innings pitched and four stikeouts while allowing two runs (zero earned). Durland picked up her ninth save after throwing the final two innings.
Augustana got on the board in the third inning when
Taylor Kapsch hit a line drive home run over the left field fence.
Murray's solo home run in the top of the fourth put the Vikings up 2-0 until St. Cloud tied it up in the bottom half of the inning when Chris Saiz reached on an error that allowed Steinle to score. During the next at-bat Kelly Olson scored on a passed ball before Megan Lehnen was thrown out attempted to score on the same play.
The Vikings regained the lead the next inning when Kapsch hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought
Chelsi Winskowski home. In the next at-bat, McMahon drove of pitch high over the left field fence to put the score at 4-2.
Augustana's final two runs were scored in the sixth inning. Murray led off the inning with a walk, and
Lindsay Spanton followed two at-bats later with a solo home run.
Kapsch was 1 for 2 in the game with an RBI and a run, while Spanton added two RBIs in a 1 for 3 performance.
