SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Three-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference first team choice Tyler Schulte is returning to Augustana as an assistant football coach.
He will work with the Viking receivers.
Schulte, a Sioux Falls native, was a key player in Augustana's 2010 season, the most successful in school history. The Vikings recorded a school-record 11 wins (three more than the previous mark), captured a share of the NSIC South Division title, and made their first playoff appearance since 1989. Augustana also hosted and won its first playoff game by defeating Grand Valley State at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
Schulte's contributions in 2010 included a school record 18-touchdown receptions and a record-tying single-game effort of four scoring catches against the University of Mary. He was also on the receiving end of a 99-yard pass from current Augustana quarterback
Josh Hanson, a strike that stands as the longest completion and touchdown pass, and longest play from scrimmage in school history.
Head coach Mike Aldrich also announced the promotion of
James Schrenk to full-time status as the recruiting coordinator and linebackers coach.
Gerald Davis has been elevated from volunteer assistant to graduate assistant. He will work with the offensive tackles.
Augustana reports to fall camp on Saturday, Aug. 11 to open the 2012 season.
