SIOUX FALLS, S.D.
– Augustana volleyball got off on the right foot in NSIC competition with a commanding 3-0 sweep of Upper Iowa to move to 7-2 and 1-0 in the conference.  The Vikings defeated the Peacocks easily 25-15, 25-14, 25-14.

Courtney Ysker started the match off by serving for eight straight points before Upper Iowa could even get on the board.  Holly Hafemeyer and Jordan Spatenka notched two kills during the run.  The Peacocks never got closer than six points as the Vikings coasted to the first set victory, 25-15.

Another quick start gave Augustana the cushion they needed as they took the second set handily 25-14.  Aided by two Marissa Johnson aces, the Vikings took a commanding 8-3 lead early.  The lead dwindled to four points, but then Augustana ended the Upper Iowa hopes with a five-point flurry to push the lead to 11.  Hafemeyer drilled two more of her 12 kills to end the set.

The third set was more of a battle between the Vikings and Peacocks, but Augustana gradually pulled away and finished with three kills to put an end to the match.

Freshman setter Johnson dished out 38 assists paired with a career high five kills.  Spatenka and Hafemeyer led the offense with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.  Ysker contributed with 9 and a season-high .412 attack percentage.

Kayla Wallerich and Ysker dropped four aces apiece and the Vikings tallied 10 as a team.

Grace Sanders scooped up 15 digs on a night when digs were few and far between.

Augustana returns to action tomorrow evening for a bout with Winona State at 5:30 p.m.
