SIOUX FALLS, S.D
. – Augustana started Northern Sun Intercollegiate conference with a 3-0 win over Wayne State College on Sunday afternoon.  Katie Hurd led the Vikings with a goal and an assist.

Augustana jumped on the scoreboard first with a Payton Pry goal in the 15th minute.  After a long ball from Maren Werth, Jessie Huff crossed the ball through the penalty box from the left side and Haley Berner redirected it to a wide open Pry who drilled it to the back of the net.

Amanda Wagner saved both shots that Wayne State took in the first half as the defense helped keep the pressure on the Wildcats in the first 45.

The second half stayed scoreless until the 83rd minute when Hurd took a pass from Annie Thoresen near midfield and dribbled to just inside the 18-yard box and blasted a shot with her left foot to the bottom right of the net.

Five minutes later, while stalling to run out the clock, Hurd found Kara Bartels who took the ball towards the center of the penalty box and beat the keeper with shot from the outside of her right foot.

Wagner finished the day saving all nine Wayne State shots on goal for her second shutout of the season and ninth career shutout which moves her into first place in the Augustana record books.

The Vikings return to the pitch Saturday, Sept. 15 in Aberdeen, S.D. against Northern State at 1 p.m.
