Vikings' win streak snapped by No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana saw its six match winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening when No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul took the Vikings down in three sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-18). Augustana suffers its third loss of the year, dropping them to 14-3 overall, 6-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. Concordia-St. Paul improves to 17-1, 9-0 in the NSIC.

Holly Hafemeyer finished with 13 kills, leaving her just two kills short of 1,000 kills in her career. CU's offensive attack was led by Kayla Koenecke who hit .500 with 14 kills. The Vikings were held to a .192 attack percentage (.37-13-125) while the Golden Bears swung at a .313 clip (51-9-134).

Hafemeyer led the first-set attack for the Vikings with five kills, but the Golden Bears were too much to take the first set 25-18. CU was led by Heather Schiller with five kills in the first stanza.

The Vikings fell in a 0-2 hole when they lost the second set 25-16. Koenecke cranked out six kills in the second stanza while the Vikings managed just 11 kills led by Hafemeyer's four.

The match was sealed when the Golden Bears took the third set 25-18. Bailey Koch came off the bench to register three kills but the Vikings surrendered 19 kills in the least set.

Augustana hits the road to face Winona State and Upper Iowa on Oct. 18 and 19, respectively.
