BOX SCORE FAYETTE, Iowa -
Ashley Buckley notched her 100th career win as a head coach as Augustana swept Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings' 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 win improves their record to 16-3 with an 8-3 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season. The Peacocks fall to 6-14 overall, 2-9 in the NSIC.
Buckley's 100th win marks the fourth time an Augustana head coach has led the Vikings to 100 wins in her tenure. In six seasons as the head of the Augustana volleyball program, Buckley has put up a 100-72 career mark and a 63-48 record in NSIC competition.
Leading Buckley to her milestone were
Courtney Ysker,
Holly Hafemeyer, and
Taylor Hrdlichka who combined for 36 kills with Ysker and Hafemeyer tallying 13 each. The Vikings swung at a .295 clip (48-15-112) while scooping up 59 digs to limit the UIU attack to a .120 mark (29-16-108).
Ysker earned her 11th double-double of the season with a match-high 20 digs to pair with her 13 kills. The frontline defense also played a big role, totaling five blocks, led by Hrdlichka's three assists.
Augustana built a steady lead in the first set and weathered an Upper Iowa comeback by closing the set on a 6-1 run for a 25-15 win. Hafemeyer led the charge with six kills in the first stanza and the Peacocks were limited to seven kills and seven errors aiding the Viking rout.
Once again Augustana's balanced offense gave them a lead they would not relinquish and rolled to a 25-16 second-set win. Hafemeyer served the Vikings to a five-point burst that featured a kill from three different players, giving them an 18-10 lead. Ysker, Hafemeyer and Hrdlichka then closed the door on the Peacock comeback chances with a flurry of kills.
The Vikings never built a lead larger than three points until a 6-1 run in the middle of the final set to distance themselves and earn their second consecutive sweep. Hrdlichka's two kills sparked the Viking run and she paced the offense with five kills in the 25-18 third-set win.
Marissa Johnson capped off a big weekend with 45 assists in three sets of work to lead the Augustana attack.
Brittany Cech logged double-digit digs for the seventh consecutive match with 11 in the sweep of the Peacocks.
Augustana returns home for a three-match home stand beginning with a Tuesday night match against Wayne State at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 in the Elmen Center.
