SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana (13-2, 5-2 NSIC) returns home to host two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents from Minnesota this weekend. The Vikings are set to face Minnesota State (8-6, 4-3 NSIC) on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Elmen Center. To close the weekend, Augustana will square off with No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul (15-1, 7-0) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Vikings continue to inch toward the top 25 of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll. In Monday's release, Augustana received 23 points after being placed on seven ballots, including a No. 15 ranking on one ballot. The last time the Vikings were in the top 25 was on Aug. 31, 2009 when they occupied the No. 25 ranking.
Augustana will be renewing one of its oldest rivalries when they face Minnesota State on Friday. The Vikings and Mavericks have faced each other 56 times with Augustana coming out on top 30 times. The 56 times the two teams have faced is the fifth-most for Augustana against any opponent.
On Saturday, the Vikings will be looking to beat Concordia-St. Paul for the first time in 25 years. Augustana has logged only one win against the Golden Bears as they look to double that on Saturday. The Vikings have faced the No.-1 ranked team nine times -- six of those have been against Concordia -- since 2002 and own a 1-8 record with the lone win over West Texas A&M in 2002.
