SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana (22-7) earned the No. 4 seed of the US Bank/NSIC Tournament and will host fifth-seeded Northern State (21-6) on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. The winner of Wednesday's match will face the winner of top seed Concordia-St. Paul and No. 8 seed Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m.
The Vikings and Wolves ended the NSIC regular season in a tie for fourth place with a 14-6 record but Augustana was awarded the No. 4 seed and first-round hosting rights due to the Vikings owning the head-to-head tiebreaker -- the Vikings swept NSU in both meetings this season.
Augustana moved up to seventh in the NCAA Central Region rankings released last Wednesday. The Vikings are followed by Northern State at No. 8 making Wednesday's matchup even more important.
The three winners of the NSIC, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, and Great American Conference tournaments will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Central Region Tournament. The next five slots will be awarded to the highest remaining teams in the NCAA Central Region Rankings.
The Augustana men's basketball game against Presentation College is still scheduled for Wednesday, but the start time will be pushed back until 30 minutes after the conclusion of the volleyball match.
