ST. PETER, Minn. – Augustana shut out its third opponent in four matches to stay undefeated after they beat Minnesota State 9-0 on Saturday. The Vikings are atop the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with a 3-0 conference record and a 4-0 mark, overall. Minnesota State dropped its first match of the year and falls to 3-1 overall and in the NSIC.
The Vikings opened the day with three doubles victories to give them a head start on the team match score.
Katie Jesperson and
Michelle Wadas won at No. 1 eight sets to five.
Jessa Richards and
Hannah Gebauer defeated their opponents 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and
Heather Sullivan and
Jenna Helleberg eanred a 8-3 victory at No.3.
Jesperson opened the singles matches at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Richards remained perfect in her collegiate career with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the second singles slot.
Michelle Wadas returned to singles action with a 6-3, 6-1 win at no. 3 singles and
Hannah Gebauer earned her first “double-bagel” victory at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Likewise in the No. 5 singles spot, Sullivan won 6-0, 6-0.
Liz Lewis closed out the singles matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the sixth slot.
The Vikings continue NSIC action by hosting Upper Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State on Feb. 16 an 17.
