BOX SCORE MARSHALL, Minn. – No. 23 Augustana nailed a season-high 16 3-pointers, which sets a record for the most in a game by a women's team at the R/A Facility in Marshall, cruising to a 92-60 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday. The Vikings (19-5, 15-5 NSIC) had five players in double-figures, led by
Shaunteva Ashley's 16.
Ashley was 6 of 10 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range while dishing out six assists.
Alex Feeney added 15 points and four rebounds while
Andrea Whitney pitched in with 13 points and six boards.
Cami Koehn matched her career-high with four 3-pointers, knocking down 4 of 8 shots from behind the arc.
Lydia Nelson finished the game with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Vikings finished the game shooting 54 percent (35 of 65) from the field, including a season-high 16 of 33 from 3-point range. SMSU was 22 of 56 (39 percent) from the field, including 6 of 19 from 3-point range.
After getting out-rebounded in the first half, Augustana won the battle on the boards 36-32. Whitney led the Vikings with six boards on the night.
Augustana started off the game on fire from 3-point range knocking down four straight shots from behind the arc to take a 14-8 lead. With the scored tied at 8, Koehn and Ashley hit back-to-back triples to put the Vikings up by six.
The Vikings continued to pour it on forcing SMSU to take a timeout when Feeney put Augustana up by 11 at 21-10 with the team's fifth 3-pointer of the game. From there, the Vikings went on an 11-4 run to push its lead to 32-14 with 8:17 to go in the half.
The Mustangs answered with a 12-3 run over the next three and a half minutes to cut Augustana's lead to nine at 35-26 after a 3-pointer by Annessa Rosch.
Riley Nordgaard answered Rosch's 3-pointer with one f her own and scored on the next possession to give the Vikings a 40-26 lead.
Augustana went into halftime with a 41-30 lead over the Mustangs. The Vikings shot 48 percent from the field in the half while knocking down 8 of 17 shots from 3-point range. Feeney was 3 of 3 from behind the arc in the half and shared the team lead with nine points.
SMSU was led by Nagel's 13 first half points as the Mustangs shot 44 percent from the field on 12 of 27 shooting. Augustana forced 14 SMSU turnovers and was able to score nine points off of them.
Nagel made it a 10-point game just over three minutes into the second half before the Vikings went on a 21-5 run making the score 67-41 giving the Vikings its largest lead up to this point at 67-41.
The Vikings would go on to lead by as much as 36 points in the contest eventually earning the 90-60 victory. Augustana out-scored the Mustangs 51-30 in the second half and finished the game with 34 points in the paint.
Augustana will close-out the regular season next weekend hosting Upper Iowa and Winona State. The Vikings will take on the Peacocks on Friday night at 6 p.m. before the regular season finale against Winona State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
