KISSIMMEE, Fla.
– No. 16 Augustana opened their 10-game trip to the Rebel Spring Games by splitting their first of five doubleheaders.  The Vikings toppled Wayne State (Mich.) 7-2 in game one before falling 3-2 to Caldwell College in the seventh inning in the second leg of the twinbill.

GAME ONE
Augustana gradually built a lead before exploding for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to close out the Warriors. Jenelle Trautmane earned her fourth win in the circle and helped her own cause by knocking in three runs, including her fourth home run of the season.  Five Vikings tallied two hits each as the Vikings collected 12 total.

Trautmann shut out the Warriors in the first four innings while the Vikigns built a lead. Erin Kempf singled and stole second before Emily Heinz plated her with a single through the left side in the second inning.

In the third, Theresa McMahon led off with a single and Trautmann gave herself some run support with a home run to center field.  The Vikings led 3-0 after three innings of play which proved to be enough of a cushion before the Warriors pushed across two runs in the top of the fifth.

The Vikings looked to score some insurance runs after the game tightened to a one-run difference.  McMahon singled again to start off the inning and Jenny Brown moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt.  Trautmann knocked in her third run of the game with a double to right center, scoring McMahon, but the Vikings weren't done yet.

Cassandra Kranz replaced Trautmann on the base paths and scored on a Jordan Schaffer fielder's choice to put the Vikings up 5-2.  Chelsi Winscowski singled and Carly Peterson, pinch running for Schaffer, scored on a Kempf single who was tagged out at second before Winscowski also crossed the plate.

With a 7-2 lead, Trautmann closed out Wayne State, surrendering only one hit in the final two frames.

GAME TWO
The Vikings appeared to be in control for most of the game, nursing a small lead, but the Cougars rallied and scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal a victory from 16th-ranked Augustana.

In the first inning, Brown reached base by hit for the eighth consecutive game this season with a one-out single and moved to third on a Trautmann double.  Lindsay Spanton walked to load the bases and Winscowski drew another base on balls to force in Brown to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead in the first.

Both teams were held scoreless for the next four innings, but Augustana expanded upon their slight lead by pushing a run across in the sixth.  Schaffer doubled with one out and Kranz would run for her again.  Kranz reached third on a whild pitch before Winscowski hit a deep enough fly ball to score her on the sacrifice fly.

Caldwell answered in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout.  Held scoreless in the top of the seventh, the Vikings clung to their 2-1 lead looking to win remain perfect on their spring trip.

Carley Pickett struck out the first Cougar, but hit the next batter and gave up a single.  Trautmann moved from first base to pitch for the freshman, but Caldwell had momentum on their side.  The Cougars advanced both runners to second and third by way of sacrifice bunt.  The next hitter for Caldwell then singled and scored both Cougars to swipe the game from the Vikings' hands.

Pickett is saddled with the loss and falls to 1-1 on the season. The Vikings will now face Tiffin and Caldwell again in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
