BOX SCORE WAYNE, Neb. – Annie Thoresen scored three goals for Augustana as it kicked off its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play in style Sunday with a 4-1 win over Wayne State. The Vikings moved to 3-1 (1-0 in the NSIC) while the Wildcats fell to 0-4 (0-1 in the NSIC).
The win pushed Augustana's winning streak to three games. Head coach
Brandon Barkus moved his unbeaten career record against the Wildcats to 4-0-1.
Thoresen began her three-goal day by scoring the first goal of the contest in the 36th minute of the first half, with sophomore
Caroline Renner assisting on the play.
Payton Pry notched her first goal – the eventual game winner – of the season a few minutes later. Pry took a pass from
Katie Hurd and put in the back of the net from 20 yards out in the 38th minute of regulation.
Thoresen then recorded her second goal of the match with 39 seconds remaining in the first half; Hurd delivered her second assist of the contest on the play, putting the Vikings up 3-0 at the half.
Thoresen capped off her big day in the second half by delivering her third and final goal of day in the 62th minute of the match.
Jessica Madson got her first assist of the year on the play.
With less than two minutes remaining in the game, Wayne State got on the scoreboard with a Macy Hagen goal, keeping junior
Ashley Limmer from recording her second-straight shutout for the Vikings, making the match 4-1 in favor of Augustana.
The Vikings finished the sweep of the weekend road trip by recording 16 shots against the Wildcats. Thoresen led the way with seven shots.
Maren Werth and
Paige Lynam each contributed two shots for Augustana.
Thoresen's three goals move her season total to a team-leading four on the year.
The Vikings return to the field this upcoming weekend with their home opener on Saturday against MSU Moorhead at 11 a.m. on Morstad Field.
