SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana men's basketball won its fourth straight game and put up 90-plus for the second straight game in a 95-51 win over Dakota State University on Wednesday night at Sioux Falls Arena. Tonight was Augustana's first game at Sioux Falls Arena since Nov. 15, 2011. Tonight's game was an exhibition game for Dakota State.
Augustana (4-0) out-rebounded Dakota State 59-26, including 22-6 on the offensive glass. Five Vikings scored in double-figures, led by
Daniel Jansen who finished with 24 points while hitting a career-high four 3-pointers.
Casey Schilling registered his third career 15-15 game, picking up his third double-double of the season (12th career) finishing with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Adam Beyer added a season-high 12 points and eight assists while
Jordan Spencer added 11 points and
Alex Richter pitched in with 10.
The Vikings dominated inside scoring 50 of its 95 points in the paint but also came through with 10 3-pointer, led by Jansen's four.
The Vikings dominated the glass early in the contest out-rebounding Dakota State 8-0 in the first five minutes of the game while building an 18-7 lead. The Vikings continued to hold DSU off the boards and built a 15-point lead at 25-10 with 13:16 remaining in the half.
The Trojans went on a mini run hitting three 3-pointers in a two minute stretch to cut Augustana's lead down to nine at 27-18 but the Vikings poured it on in the final 10 minutes of the half, out-scoring DSU 25-12 to take a 52-30 halftime lead.
Augustana out-rebounded Dakota State 28-12 in the first half and shot over 52 percent from the field. Schilling had a double-double in the first half alone finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Vikings had four players in double-figures in the first 20 minutes as Jansen had 13 while Beyer and Richter each added 10.
Augustana came out hot in the second half hitting five 3-pointers in the first eight minutes sparking a 26-9 run to take a 78-39 lead. The Vikings turned to their bench for the remainder of the game as all 12 players scored on the night.
Tanner Odegaard led the Vikings off the bench with five points while
Ben Weisbeck picked up four points to go along with seven rebounds.
The Vikings finished the game shooting 48.7 percent from the field, after a stretch of three straight games of shooting better than 50 percent from the field.
Augustana continues non-conference action this Saturday, Nov. 22, taking on Presentation College at 5 p.m. at the Elmen Center. The Vikings will then open NSIC play on Monday, Nov. 24, taking on Wayne State at 8 p.m. at Sioux Falls Arena.
