BOX SCORE

FAIRBANKS, Alaska
– Augustana women's basketball kept up its high-scoring ways on Friday, winning 88-75 against tournament host Alaska Fairbanks in the North Star Invitational. With the win, the Vikings improved to 6-1, while the Nanooks dropped to 5-2 with the loss.

Augustana's Sophie Kenney turned in a career-high 20 points in the victory. Kenney was able to score using a variety of ways and finished the game shooting 8 of 15.

Shaunteva Ashley scored a game-high 25 points in 33 minutes on Friday. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native also had four assists before leaving the game late with an injury.

Logan O'Farrell had her most complete game yet of the year, scoring 13 points to go along with nine rebounds, four blocks, and four steals. The rebounds, blocks, and steals were all season highs for the redshirt freshman.

Paige Peterson added seven points and 10 rebounds down low in the post for the Vikings.

Kailee Skjold led the Alaska Fairbanks with a double-double, 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Augustana's 44.8 field goal percentage (30 of 67) was also a new season high.

The Vikings had 16 steals in the win, improving their record to 5-0 this year when having double-digit totals in steals.

Augustana was able to get inside the paint early for some easy points, taking a 14-6 lead, its largest of the half, within the first six minutes of the half. Kenney led the attack with six points during the early outburst by the Vikings.

The Nanooks fought their way back into this one, using a 12-3 run midway through the first 20 minutes of play to take their first lead of the contest at 25-24 after Victoria Milton made a pair of free throws with 7:58 remaining.

A scoring flurry by Ashley in the final two minutes helped the Vikings take a 45-41 lead into the break. The former Roosevelt High star scored the final six points for Augustana, getting past her defender and to the rim for some much-needed baskets late.

The Vikings' shot 50 percent (18 for 36) from the floor in the first half.

Again, Augustana's defense was key in the opening half, forcing Alaska Fairbanks into 14 turnovers, creating scoring chances on the opposite end of the floor for the Vikings.

A quick 8-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half pushed the Augustana lead to 10 at 53-43, capped off by an Ashley basket, her 15 point of the night.

The Nanooks though would not go away quietly, cutting the Vikings' lead to six with 4:18 remaining on a made 3 by Skjold, her second in the game.

Augustana regrouped and after taking Alaska Fairbanks' best punch and seized control from there, never letting them getting any closer than six the rest of the way, despite the loss of Ashley late to injury. The Vikings went on to win 88-75.

Talk about all-around play
O'Farrell continues to show her unique ability to do a variety of things for Augustana with her 13-point, nine-rebound, four-block, four-steal game on Friday. The Summit, S.D. native's 18 steals through seven games lead the team.

Aggressive behavior
Kenney's 20-point night has been the result of the junior taking a more aggressive mentality on the offensive side of the court this year. Kenney has made herself more of a threat this season with the ability to score with the ball in her hand, while still being dangerous with the pass to set up teammates for easy looks.

Up next
The Vikings seek to close out the North Star Invitational with a 3-0 record as they meet up with Saginaw Valley State on Saturday at the Patty Center. Tip is set for 5 p.m. central time.
