SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana volleyball team wins in four-sets against Minnesota Crookston on Senior Day with scores of 25-22, 25-22, 24-26, and 25-19.
With the win, the Vikings record improved to 18-10 (11-9 NSIC), while the Eagles record dropped to 11-17 (5-14 NSIC).
Three Augustana players posted double-digit kills in the win, led by senior
Courtney Ysker who registered her 15th double-double with 24 kills and 17 digs. Ysker tallied a season-best .412 (24-3-51) attack percentage in the four-set victory.
Brittany Cech recorded a career-best 16 kills on the night, followed by
Ashley Wilson rounding out the group with 11 kills.
Setter
Marissa Johnson directed the offensive with 53 set assists, while
Tahlyr Banks added 25 digs.
The Vikings found themselves leading 9-6 over Minnesota Crookston early in set one. The Eagles fought back going on a 3-0 run to trial Augustana by one point with a score of 10-9. Both team battled six different times coming to a halt at 20 apiece. The Vikings took five out of the last seven points to secure the first set 25-22.
In set two, both teams kept rallying tying eight different times coming to a score of 10-10. Augustana went on a 9-5 run to push ahead 19-15 over Minnesota Crookston. In the end, the Vikings used its momentum, taking the second set 25-22.
Augustana headed into intermission leading 2-0 in the match.
The Eagles came out of intermission regrouped leading the Vikings 6-0 early in the third set. Augustana tried making a comeback, going on their own 4-0 run to only trail by three points. Minnesota Crooskton went back on a 5-2 run to extend their lead to 14-8. The Vikings tried chipping away, but the Eagles collected the three final points winning the set 26-24.
Tied up at 5-5 in the fourth set, Augustana went on an 8-0 run pushing ahead 13-5. Minnesota Crookston narrowed the gap to just four points, but three consecutive points from Ysker and Cech pushed the Vikings back ahead 19-12. A final kill from
Anna Sykora closed out the fourth and final set 25-19.
Augustana will now wait to hear their conference tournament fate, the top eight teams advance to the NSIC tournament.
