St. Cloud State downs No. 8 Augustana with walk-off double in extras

ST. CLOUD, Minn. –
St. Cloud State's Alyssa Coletto hit a walk-off RBI double to lift the Huskies past No. 8 Augustana 3-2 in eight innings at the Husky Dome Classic in St. Cloud, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. Augustana (5-2) scored a run in the fifth and in the seventh to tied the game at two after being held hitless for four innings but the Huskies (2-0) used the late game heroics to get the extra inning win.
 
Augustana broke the four inning hitless streak in the top of the fifth inning when Caitlin Nichol singled after a leadoff walk by Emily Heinz. The Vikings eventually loaded the bases with two outs in the inning and Lindsay Spanton walked to drive in the run with the bases full to make it a 2-1 game. Augustana would leave the bases loaded in the inning need a seventh-inning rally to force extra innings.
 
In the seventh, the Vikings used a two-out rally to tie the game at 2-2 after Spanton doubled to drive in Sarah Kennedy, who started the rally with a two-out single. SCSU stranded runners on second and third to end the inning as Carly Peterson grounded out to end the rally.
 
Karlee Koopman pitched her way out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh inning, leaving the bases loaded after one run and one hit in the inning. Koopman was tagged with the loss in the game, dropping to 1-1 on the season going 7.1 innings striking out two and walking five.
 
Koopman tried to help her own cause with a one-out single in the top of the eighth but she was forced out on second on a fielder's choice with one out in the inning and the Huskies got out without any harm done.
 
Amber Holmgren led off the bottom of the eighth with a single for St. Cloud State and after a sacrifice bunt, Coletto doubled to drive in the game winning run and give her team the 3-2 win.
 
Coletto drove in the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Breana Canova who led off the inning with a walk. The Huskies went in front 2-0 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Canova.
 
Spanton finished the game 1 for 3 at the plate with a double and two RBI. She drove in one run on the double and another on a bases-loaded walk.
 
Augustana was held to a season-low four hits in the game while St. Cloud state finished with eight.
 
The Vikings will close-out the Husky Dome Classic with two games tomorrow. Augustana begins the day against No. 25 Emporia State at 11 a.m. before closing-out the four-game trip with Missouri Western State at 1 p.m.
