Vikings set to open NSIC Tournament at Northern State

Storylines
• Augustana men's basketball concluded the regular season last weekend by splitting a pair of road games. 
• The Vikings finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-13, including 12-10 in the NSIC which was good for a ninth-place finish in the overall standings and fifth in the South Division. 
• Augustana finished the season tied with Sioux Falls for fifth in the South, but won the tiebreaker over the Cougars by beating them twice during the regular season to earn the No. 5 seed in the South Division for the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament. 
• Augustana will be on the road for its first game in the conference tournament, traveling to the North Division's No. 4 seed, Northern State, on Wednesday, Feb. 26. 
• Augustana and Northern State (18-10, 13-9 NSIC) will tip-off from Wachs Arena in the Barnett Center on the NSU campus at 8 p.m. 

NSIC Tournament
• The first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament will be played at home sites of the top four seeds in each Division. 
• The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will then be played at the Sanford Pentagon beginning on Saturday, March 1. 
• The semifinals will be played on Monday, March 3 and the finals on Tuesday, March 4. 
• The winner of the NSIC Men's Basketball Tournament will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Central Region Tournament. 
 
Last time out
• Augustana lost a heartbreaker on Friday night in one of the best offensive shootouts of the season. 
• Upper Iowa outlasted Augustana 104-100 in overtime in Fayette, Iowa.
• Augustana had been on the road since Wednesday evening as they left Sioux Falls early to beat the winter storm.  
Daniel Jansen led Augustana with 37 points, scoring 27 in the second half and overtime while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Yuriy Malashenko added a double-double for the Vikings with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  
• Upper Iowa had three players score 20 or more points in the contest, led by Joey Woods' 25. 
• After a long trip and exhausting overtime game on Friday night, Augustana came out to play spoiler at Winona State on Saturday night. 
• The Vikings closed-out the final 1:46 of the game on a 13-4 run to earn a 79-70 win over the Warriors. 
• Augustana's win cost Winona State a share of the NSIC Title as Minnesota State went 2-0 on the weekend to take the conference championship. 
Casey Schilling posted 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists against the Warriors while Jansen added 19 points and five rebounds with two 3-pointers. 
Adam Beyer had a strong second half for the Vikings scoring 11 of his 13 points in the second frame to go along with four assists.

Series history
• Wednesday's game will be the 66th match-up between Augustana and Northern State since the first game on Jan. 27, 1923. 
• Augustana is 34-31 all-time against Northern State and recently had a 10-game winning streak over the Wolves snapped. 
• Northern State won this year's only meeting between the two teams with an 85-78 win over the Vikings on Feb. 15. 
• The win marked the first for Northern State over Augustana since March 16, 2008 and the first at the Elmen Center since Dec. 7, 2007. 
• The Vikings had won 10 straight games over the Wolves before the loss on Feb. 15.
