ST. JOSEPH, Mo. –
Missouri Western State's Morgan Rathmann hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to add to the Griffons lead giving her team a 6-0 win over No. 5 Augustana College softball on Saturday afternoon. MWSU, the tournament host, improved to 18-12 on the season while handing Augustana its second straight loss to set the Vikings at 15-4 on the season.

The Vikings were only able to muster up three hits through six innings before getting back-to-back two-out singles in the top of the seventh to finish the game with five hits. Carly Peterson led Augustana going 2 for 3 at the plate with two singles. Augustana was held without an extra-base hit for the second straight game, just the second time this season.

Jenelle Trautmann was the pitcher of record in the loss for the Vikings falling to 11-2 on the season giving up six runs on nine hits. MWSU's Jackie Bishop improved to 12-5 on the season with the win striking out five batters and walking none.

Missouri Western grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Kat Steponovich.

The Griffons added to their lead in the fourth after a leadoff double came around to score on a fielder's choice with one out in the inning to make the score 2-0.

Augustana got a hit in the third fourth and sixth innings, but was unable to get a runner past second base until the top of the seventh inning but by then it was too late as the Griffons went up 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth on the two-out grand slam home run by Rathmann.

The Vikings will close-out the Missouri Western State tournament with two more games tomorrow. Augustana starts the day against Pittsburg State at 12 p.m. before taking on Washburn University at 2 p.m.
