Storylines• No. 5 Augustana softball (17-4) begins Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on the road this week.
• The Vikings open conference play on Wednesday, March 26 at Wayne State (14-8) with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
• Augustana will then play its home opener on Saturday, hosting MSU Moorhead at 12 p.m. before playing host to Northern State for a twinbill at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
Augustana in NSIC play• Augustana is in its sixth season as a member of the NSIC.
• The Vikings have finished sixth or better in all previous five seasons.
• Augustana is 104-24 all-time in the NSIC.
• Augustana was 17-9 in conference play last season, marking the most losses in NSIC play since the first year in the league when they lost five.
• Augustana has won its NSIC opener in five straight seasons.
National news• Augustana remained at No. 5 in the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Top 25 Poll for the third straight week.
• The Vikings were ranked 22nd in the NFCA preseason poll.
• Augustana jumped by going 4-1 in its opening weekend, including a win over then No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Central Oklahoma.
• The Vikings are 3-1 against ranked opponents this season.

Last time out• The Vikings went 4-2 against regional opponents at the Missouri Western State Tournament in St. Joseph, Mo. last weekend.
• Augustana opened the tournament grabbing two one-run wins, defeating Missouri Southern State 6-5 and Central Missouri 5-4.
• Against Missouri Southern,
Jenelle Trautmann hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Vikings to victory.
• Augustana used a five-run fourth inning and held off a late Central Missouri charge to down the Jennies 5-4.
• Augustana fell off the tracks a bit on day two against some more tough competition falling to No. 12 Emporia State 7-1 and 6-0 to host Missouri Western State.
• The Vikings righted the ship on the final day of play defeating Pittsburg State 11-7 and Washburn 6-2.
About Wayne State• Wayne State enters conference play with a record of 14-8 on the season and is coming off a 3-3 weekend at the Missouri Western State Tournament.
• The Wildcats enter the mid-week batting .301 as a team with 33 doubles, four triples and 10 home runs.
