SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 13 Augustana College softball got a one-hit pitching performance in game one and secured two shutouts as the Vikings downed Southwest Minnesota State 7-0 and 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Bowden Field.

Jenelle Trautmann held SMSU to just one hit over six innings while matching her season-high with nine strikeouts to improve to 21-3 after a game-one win. In game two, Trautmann blasted her seventh home run of the season to give her 43 for her career tying Theresa McMahon for the career record at Augustana.

Game one

Augustana scored seven runs on eight hits in game one, using a four-run second inning to gain a big lead over the Mustangs. Lindsay Spanton blasted her fifth home run of the season in a 1 for 2 performance at the plate. Jordan Schaffer and Sarah Kennedy each picked up two hits in the game for the Vikings.

The Vikings put up four runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning to go in front 4-0 over SMSU. Spanton led off the inning with a walk and Erin Kempf got on base in the next at bat on fielder's choice. Emily Heinz moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt and Schaffer delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to score the first two runs.

Schaffer then moved up to second on a wild pitch before Carly Peterson singled to move her up to third setting up Caitlin Nichol who drove in the run on a groundout to the shortstop. Mackenzie Alstott drove in the fourth run on an infield single to give the Vikings a four-run cushion.

Spanton led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot to right field to push Augustana's lead to 5-0 while Trautmann held the Mustangs hitless through three innings.

SMSU got its lone hit of the game with a leadoff single in the top of the fourth inning but would not get the runner past first base in the inning. Trautmann has now thrown a one-hitter in her last two starts for the Vikings.

Peterson and Nichol got back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fourth inning and both came around to score when Alstott reached on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt to put the Vikings in front 7-0.

Augustana extended its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth after Schaffer blasted her ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. Trautmann's 43rd career and seventh home run of the season, a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth gave the Vikings a 6-0 lead.
