SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana track and field coach
Tracy Hellman announced the signing of Irene Almarcha of Sevilla, Spain for the 2014-15 season. Almarcha becomes the 19th member of the 2014 cross country/track and field signing class.
"Based on her accomplishments up to this point, we are very excited about the impact Irene will make on our team," assistant and hurdles coach
Greg Binstock said.
Almarcha specializes in the 60- and 100-meter hurdles and has earned a great reputation for her previous accomplishments. The 5-foot-7 hurdler won the 2013 Under-23 national championship in Spain in the 60-meter hurdles and holds a personal-best of 8.67 seconds.
After attending the Universidad de Sevilla for two years, Almarcha will have three years of eligibility remaining when she joins Augustana's squad for the 2014-15 seasons. With a personal-best of 13.96 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, Almarcha is ranked 366th in the world for women's 100-meter hurdlers according to
