SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 13 Augustana College softball combined for 25 runs on 24 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Minnesota Crookston on Sunday afternoon at Bowden Field. The Vikings (27-6, 10-2 NSIC) opened the day with a 14-1 win in game one before winning the finale 11-1 to sweep the Golden Eagles (2-19, 0-8 NSIC).
 
Jordan Schaffer was 3 for 5 on the afternoon with two home runs and six RBI. Sarah Kennedy was 4 for 6 with a double and two RBI and Jenelle Trautmann was 4 for 6 with a double, a home run and three RBI in the doubleheader.
 
Trautmann picked up the win in game one in the circle going 4.0 innings while striking out seven and allowing just three hits. The win improved her to 18-2 on the season. Carley Pickett earned the win in game two giving up one run on four hits while striking out four. Pickett improved to 7-3 with the win.
 
In game one, the Vikings picked up two early runs after a two-run home run by Trautmann with two outs in the inning to put her team up 2-0. Trautmann now has 40 career home runs and is three shy of tying Theresa McMahon for the career record.  
 
The Vikings pushed their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third inning getting RBI singles from Caitlin Nichol and Erin Kempf in between a two-RBI double by Spanton.
 
Augustana then broke loose with eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to go in front 14-0. After leading off the inning with a solo home run, Schaffer got a second at bat in the inning and made it count hitting a three-run home run to left center. Schaffer leads Augustana with with eight home runs on the season.
 
Minnesota Crookston plated its only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning scoring a run just before Augustana recorded the final out of the game on a pickoff play to bring the final score to 14-1.
 
Trautmann had there more hits in game two, going 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Carly Peterson went 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI while Kennedy finished 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI.
 
Augustana took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs on one hit and an error. Nichol was hit by a pitch to start the inning and stole second before scoring on an error by the UMC pitcher trying to throw Kennedy out at second on a steal attempt. Trautmann then drove Kennedy in with a double down the right field line.
 
Augustana pushed its lead to 10-0 with an eight-run second inning. Peterson and Schaffer each had drove in two runs with singles in the inning while Nichol, Kennedy and Alsott each drove in a run.
 
The Golden Eagles got a run on three hits in the top of the third to bring the score to 10-1 but the Vikings got one back in the bottom of on a sacrifice fly by Spanton to make it 11-1 and put the run-rule into effect after the Vikings got out of the fourth and fifth innings quietly.
 
Augustana returns to action on Wednesday, April 9, taking on the University of Sioux Falls at Sherman Park.
