SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana volleyball team got day two of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Challenge underway with a 3-0 win against Fort Hays State with scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-19.
With the victory, the Vikings improve to 3-0 in the NSIC Challenge, and 6-1 overall. The Tigers dropped to 1-2 in the tournament and 4-3 overall.
Courtney Ysker led the way for Augustana with nine kills. Bailey Koch added eight kills and had a team-best .400 (8-2-15) attack percentage.
Ashley Wilson tallied seven kills to go along with six block assists.
Augustana combined for a season-best 13.5 blocks as a team, while Fort Hays State had a team total of four.
Defensive Player of the Week Tahlyr Banks led the pack with 15 digs, followed by Brittany Cech with 11 digs.
The Vikings came out on fire in the first set, roaring out to a 10-5 lead, forcing FHSU to take a timeout. Augustana finished the first set winning 25-14. Wilson had four kills, while Koch added three.
The Vikings had an early 4-0 run in the second set, but were overturned when Fort Hays State tied the game at nine all. The second set saw 12 lead changes before back-to-back kills from Becca Finley and Ysker pushed the Vikings ahead never to look back, taking the set 25-20.
In the third set, Augustana went on another run early in the set, forcing yet another Tigers' timeout. The Vikings closed out the set with a final kill from Finley, winning 25-19, and taking the match in three sets.
Augustana closes out the NSIC Challenge Saturday evening hosting South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at 4:30 p.m.
