Vikings set for big week of NSIC play

Augustana volleyball set for second week of NSIC play

This Week
• The Vikings (9-2) (2-1 NSIC) continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 23 against No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. with a start time of 7 p.m.
• Following Tuesday's match-up against SMSU, Augustana will take on No. 2 Minnesota Duluth on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. followed by St. Cloud State on Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m. both held in the Elmen Center.

Series History    
    vs. Southwest Minnesota State
• The Vikings hold an even record against Southwest Minnesota State with an record of 26-26-1.
• Last season, Augustana lost to No. 8 SMSU in four sets. 
• The first time the teams have ever met was dated all the way back to 1973, with the Vikings winning both times 2-1 in three sets.
•  The teams had their lone tie in 1981 with each taking a game on the other.
• Dating all the way back to 1982, Augustana won 23-straight matches before losing 0-3 in 2005.
• Following 2005, the Vikings have lost the past 15-straight matches against the Mustangs. 

    vs. Minnesota Duluth
• The Bulldogs hold the upper-hand against the Vikings with an overall record of 9-29.
• Augustana have lost 12 straight matches beginning in 2003.
• The Vikings lost for the first time meeting in 1977, followed by six straight losses.
• Augustana won in a five-set match in 2012 followed by last season losing in a three-set match both were home matches for the Vikings.

    vs. St. Cloud State
• Augustana is 41-21 all-time against the Huskies.
• The Vikings have played St. Cloud State the past 14 years with an overall record of 24-1.
• First time Augustana lost to SCSU was in 1982 by a score of 0-2, which was followed by 5 straight losses in head-to-head matchups.
• The Vikings are 21-1 playing at home against the Huskies, and 13-7 on the road. 
• Augustana lost in 2009 at St. Cloud, Minn. in a three-set match.

Last Week in Review
• The Vikings went 2-1 in conference play this past week.
                Wayne State
• No. 22 Augustana opened conference play last Tuesday Sept. 16 hosting No. 19 Wayne State
• The No. 19 Wildcats were the second team to take the Vikings into a fifth set this season.   
• Wayne State would win the match 3-2, giving Augustana their first loss of the NSIC play.
Courtney Ysker led the Vikings with 16 kills in the five-set match against the Wildcats.
Ashley Wilson had a team-best .385 (13-3-26) attack percentage.
• Setter Marissa Johnson recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 36 assists and 12 digs. 
                Minnesota Crookston
• Augustana would follow that match-up against Wayne State and hit the road to play two foes in the North, Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State.
• On Friday Sept. 19 the Vikings would get set for Minnesota Crookston.
• Augustana would sweep the Golden Eagles in three-sets, improving their overall record to 8-2 (1-1 NSIC).
• The Vikings recorded a team-best 53 digs.
• Wilson tallied 12 kills and a team-best .526 (12-2-19) attack percentage
• Johnson recorded her seventh double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs.
                Bemidji State
• Following Minnesota Crookston the Vikings would play Bemidji State to close out the first week of NSIC play.
• Augustana would come back from being down 2-1 against the Beavers.
• The Vikings would win in a five-set thriller against BSU with scores of 22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 28-26, 15-13.
• Augustana would improve to 9-2 (2-1 NSIC)
•  Kelsey Kaufmann would have a team-best .400 (7-1-15) attack percentage.
• Ysker would record a season-best 24 kills and a team-best 16 digs in the victory over Bemidji State.
• Johnson would record her eighth double-double with 41 assists and 13 digs.
