Augustana set for 'Viking Days' clash with U-Mary

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana College football team will host the annual "Viking Days" game against the University of Mary at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Kirkeby-Over Stadium. Saturday's homecoming game will wrap-up a week's worth of activities for Viking Days 2014 as Augustana (2-1) looks to build off its 48-17 road win at Northern State last weekend.

The Vikings welcome U-Mary (1-2) who is coming off a 20-13 victory over Concordia-St. Paul at home last weekend. Augustana and U-Mary are playing for just the fifth time in a series that began in 2007. The Vikings won the first two meetings against the Marauders, while U-Mary has won the last two. Augustana and U-Mary last met in 2012, a 31-25 victory for the Marauders in Bismarck.

At halftime on Saturday, Augustana will be presented with the First Dakota National Bank Mayor's Cup trophy for winning the 2013-14 Mayor's Cup Challenge. For the second straight year, Augustana defeated the University of Sioux Falls in the annual head-to-head competition. The Vikings won the point-based competition that pits 16 common, equally weighted sports by a score of 14-5.

Augustana won the inaugural Mayor's Cup by a margin of 13-6 in 2012-13. By placing equal emphasis on all spots, the series helps to build community awareness for less publicized Olympic sports. The series focuses on the message that "Every Game Counts" and that the rivalry between the schools is a year-long affair.

Saturday's game will also be broadcast live on Midco Sports Network (channels 26 SD and 622 in High Definition). David Brown will handle the play-by-play and Alex Heinert will provide the color commentary.
