WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Augustana soccer didn't get the start it had hoped for to begin 2014. The Vikings were shutout 2-0 against Central Missouri in their season opener on Friday night. The loss puts Augustana at 0-1, while the Jennies moved to 1-0 with the win.

Things were weird from the beginning with the initial start time of 7 p.m. pushed back two hours due to lightning in the area.

When the match did get going, UCM made its move fast, scoring in just the second minute of regulation to take a 1-0 lead off an Alex Yockey goal. Yockey drilled a shot from the top of the box over Viking goalie Ashley Limmer's head. Hannah Pryle was credited with the assist on the play.

Central Missouri pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute of regulation after Jada Scott netted her first goal of the season. Scott dribbled past Limmer and pushed a shot into the back of the net.

Augustana couldn't generate any offense for the rest of the half, trailing 2-0 at the break.

The Vikings were able to only get up five shots in the period compared to the Jennies' nine.

The second half provided little offense for either team, as both teams limited each other to three shots and no goals in the final 45 minutes of play, giving the UCM a 2-0 victory.

Augustana finished with eight shots, four on goal, for the match.

The contest saw lots of physical play, resulting in 22 fouls called during the game.

The Vikings will return to the pitch on Sunday to take on Southwest Baptist (1-0). Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
