Augustana volleyball knocks off 18th-ranked Colorado School of Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. – After picking up a 3-1 win over 14th-ranked Grand Valley State earlier today, Augustana College volleyball took down its second straight ranked opponent with a sweep of 18th-ranked and tournament-host Colorado School of Mines. The Vikings took down the Orediggers by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 27-25.

The Vikings won their three final games at the Oredigger Classic and bring a  3-1 record home while Colorado School of Mines drops to 3-1 on the season.

Senior Courtney Ysker led the way with 14 kills. Ysker tallied 64 kills throughout the tournament brining her within 160 kills of joining the 1,000 kill club at Augustana.

Bailey Koch matched her season-high with 11 kills, swinging a season-best .500 (11-2-18) attack percentage against the Orediggers.

Setter Marissa Johnson, had 33 assists for the match accumulating a total of 158 for the tournament while Ashley Wilson dominated at the net with 20.0 blocks in four matches.
The Orediggers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over the Vikings in the first set but Augustana came on fire and bounced back to tie the game at 21 apiece, with a kill from outside hitter Courtney Ysker. The Vikings finished the set with a 25-21 victory.

In set two, Augustana gained a 5-0 lead and never looked back. The Viking offense sparked the early lead as they went on to win the set 25-17. Ysker recorded a team best six kills during the second set, including the set-winning kill. Johnson added 10 assists in the second set as well.

Colorado School of Mines gained an early 5-0 lead in the third set, before Augustana would bring the set to a tie at 10. In the third and final set, the teams would exchange points back and forth throughout the set before middle blocker Sydney Hunsley, and setter Anna Sykora, would give the Vikings four straight points late in the set to boost Augustana and the Vikings went on to close-out the set with a 27-25 win.

Ysker and Willson were named Oredigger Classic All-Tournament Team.

Augustana hosts the second annual NSIC Challenge that will be held Sept. 12-13 at the Elmen Center and Stewart Center at USF. The Vikings open the NSIC Challenge against Northwest Missouri State at 11:30 a.m.
