WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Augustana soccer team used an explosive first half on offense as part of a 5-2 win against Southwest Baptist on Sunday. With the win, the Vikings improved their record to 1-1 on the year, while the Bearcats fell to 1-1.

Payton Pry led the way for Augustana with two goals in the match, tying a career high. Pry also led all Vikings with four shots, including two on goal.

Augustana's offense was in full force on Sunday with 11 out of its 15 shots coming on goal.

Pry started things off for the Vikings in the 15th minute of regulation by beating SBU's keeper with a shot that came off a deflection of Stephanie Stevens' free kick to give Augustana a 1-0 lead. It was the first goal of the season for Augustana.

The Vikings struck again just over seven minutes later with Pry getting her second goal of the match. The Lawton, Iowa native chipped a shot over Southwest Baptist's Cheyenne Forshey and into the back of the net, putting Augustana up 2-0. Junior Meg Thacker was credited with her first career assist on the play.

The Vikings tacked on one more goal late in the first half when Samantha Arnold scored with 11 seconds remaining until in the half. Arnold drilled a shot off a pass from Samantha Tymkowicz from the right side of the box into the top-left corner of the goal to put Augustana up 3-0. It was the first goal of the young forward's collegiate career. Tymkowicz also picked up her first collegiate assist on the pass.

The Bearcats refused to let this one get out of hand, cutting the Augustana lead to two at 3-1 on an AC Pettit goal at the 51:21 mark in the second half. It was Pettit's first goal of the 2014 season.

SBU got the match to within one at 3-2 after Karla Jamison flicked in a header over Viking goalkeeper Ashley Limmer's head in the 59th minute. Southwest Baptist's Nicole Billmeyer picked up the assist on the goal.

Tymkowicz put the game out of reach at the 78:30 mark with her first collegiate goal of her career. The freshman forward scored on a cross from Annie Thoresen to push the Augustana lead back to two at 4-2.

Stevens added on more goal for the Vikings late in the match on a penalty kick in the 89th minute. It was the former Ankeny High standout's first goal of the year.

Augustana went on the officially win 5-2 just minutes later.

The Vikings return to the pitch for their home opener this upcoming Thursday when they take on Wayne State. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Morstad Field.
