BOX SCORE

MINOT, N.D. –
Coming off a big comeback win last night, the Augustana women's basketball used the momentum gained from it to get the road sweep with an 82-65 victory at Minot State on Saturday. The Vikings climbed to 15-8 (9-7 NSIC) with the win, while the Beavers dropped to 9-13 (4-12 NSIC) this season.

Augustana found its touch from deep, draining 13 3-pointers on the afternoon, the first time of making at least 10 3s in a game in a little over two months, which tied its longest winning streak of the year on Saturday with the convincing victory.

Shaunteva Ashley, battling foul trouble throughout the game, finished with 18 points in 30 minutes. The senior also had five rebounds, and dished out six assists for the Vikings.

Logan O'Farrell had 18 points, her fourth straight game in double figures scoring. O'Farrell also grabbed five rebounds and added two steals and a block on the defensive end of the court.

Sydney Rome added a season-high 15 points off the bench, all coming from beyond the 3-point line. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native started the game blistering hot, connecting on her first five shots from deep.

Minot State was led by Alex Haley's team-high 17 points.

The Beavers got a pair of double-doubles from posts Savana Kingsbury and Katie Hardy. Kingsbury had 14 points and 10 boards and Hard with 13 and 11.

Things started in favor of Minot State, who jumped out to an 8-0 lead after a layup by Diondra Denton gave her six points early. The Beavers pushed the lead to 13-2 going into the under-15 media timeout. The Vikings struggled in the opening minutes with their shot, going 1 for 9 in the first five minutes.

Despite the slow start, Augustana worked its way back into the contest with three 3s as part of a 14-5 run in a span of 3:46 that made it a four-point game going into the under-10 media timeout.

A 3-pointer by Sophie Kenney brought the Vikings to within one at 22-21 with nine minutes to go. For Kenney, it was her first basket of the afternoon and just her 10th made 3 this year.

Augustana got its first lead of the game late in the first half after a 3-pointer by Allie Koehn put the Vikings up 27-24. It was the Brandon, S.D. native's eighth point of the half, and second 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes.

Rome, coming off a previous season-high 12 points on Friday night, still showed her hot-shooting touch from behind the arc in the game against Mary, knocking down her second 3 to give Augustana its first double-digit lead of the game at 35-24.

The Vikings held on the rest of the half to take a 40-30 lead into the break.

Augustana's magic touch from deep was key in the opening half of play, going 8 of 17 from the 3-point line, a plus-18 advantage when compared to Minot States 2-for-6 effort.

The defense of the Vikings again showed its presence in the first half, forcing the Beavers into 10 turnovers which resulted in 19 points in the half for Augustana.

The Vikings opened the second half a little cold, missing their first five shots before L. O'Farrell ended the streak with a 3 from the left corner, giving her 12 on the day.

Rome continued her blistering start from deep, draining her fifth 3-point shot in h game at the 14:20 mark in the half, giving her 15 points.

Minot State made it a one-possession game a bucket by Hayley cut the Augustana lead to two at 51-49 and upper her total to 15.

The Vikings gave themselves some separation with a 9-4 run a little over midway through the second half. The run was capped off by Paige Peterson knocking down a jumper for her sixth point of the game.

Augustana pulled away after a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers by Kenney and Koehn pushed the lead to 14 with 3:32 to go, giving the Vikings 13 made 3s on the day.

The Beavers never got closer than that the rest of the way, losing 82-65.

Two of a kind
Augustana's second unit was huge in keeping and building the lead today when the starters went out for rest or due to foul trouble, in particular Koehn and Rome. The duo have really come on lately on the offensive end, giving the Vikings some serious shooting from deep as well as the ability to score points in bunches.

Up next
Augustana returns home to start its longest homestand this year, a four-game stand that begins on Friday with a visit from No. 17 Northern State at the Sioux Falls Arena.
