Augustana football set for Viking Days clash with Wayne State on Saturday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana University football team (4-2, 1-1 NSIC South) returns home to host Wayne State (3-3, 0-2 NSIC South) in the annual Viking Days game at Kirkeby-Over Stadium. The Vikings and Wildcats will clash in a South Division contest on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. Saturday's homecoming game will help wrap-up a week's worth of activities for Viking Days 2015 as Augustana looks to rebound after last week's close loss to No. 1 Minnesota State on the road.

Wayne State enters Saturday's game coming off a 61-3 home loss to Southwest Minnesota State last Saturday. Saturday's game between the Vikings and Wildcats will be the 18th all-time meeting between the two teams. The all-time series sits at 8-8-1 with each team winning eight games. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in 1951.

The Vikings snapped a four-game losing streak to the Wildcats last season winning a shootout 52-48 on Oct. 18 in Wayne, Neb. last season. Trey Heid had one of the best games of his career last season against the Wildcats, tossing a single game school record six touchdown passes. He led the team on a seven-play 59-yard scoring drive with just over one minute left in the game to secure the road victory, tossing his sixth touchdown pass of the game to Charlie Hayes.

Heid tied a single game NCAA Division II record throwing five of his six touchdown passes in the second quarter alone. He was the first player to throw five touchdowns in a single quarter since Valdosta State's Dusty Bonner did so on Nov. 4, 2000 in a game against Ouachita Baptist.

Hayes also had a big day for the Vikings against the Wildcats last season, catching six passes for three touchdowns while scoring another touchdown recovering a fumble in the end zone.

Augustana enters Saturday's game ranking sixth in the NSIC in total offense, averaging 432.2 yards per game. The Vikings rank sixth in the NSIC averaging 274.7 passing yards per game and fourth averaging 112.8 rushing yards per contest. Augustana has had success in the red zone in 2015, converting at 97 percent (28 of 29) which leads all teams in Division II.
