SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No. 21 Augustana volleyball (14-6, 7-5 NSIC) fell to No. 6 Wayne State (18-3, 10-2 NSIC) in four-sets Tuesday night (25-21, 20-25, 21-25, 18-25).
These two programs met back in Sept. in Wayne, Neb. where Augustana upset the Wildcats in four-sets. The rematch had all the makings of another showdown, when early in set-one, the teams kept trading points. Wayne State grab the first point of the set on an Augustana hitting error, but the Vikings were quickly able to score two of their own. This would continue until late in the set, when the Vikings were able to grab three of the final four points to close out set-one with a win. In set-one, there were nine ties and three lead changes.
In set-two, it looked like the Vikings were picking up right where they had left off in set-one grabbing the first point and then again trading points up to 20 all. After both teams hit the 20-point mark, the Wildcats were able to grab the next five and take the set. There were 10 ties and five lead changes during the second set.
Set-three had a different feel to it. The Wildcats grabbed the first two points and didn't look back. There was one tie in set-three at the 4-point mark, but after that the Vikings weren't able to sustain rallies. They got it close late at 19-21, but much like set-two, Wayne State was able to pull away. There was a lone tie in the fourth and final set at 1 apiece, but that was as close as Augustana was able to get. The two teams were evenly matched despite the rankings, but Wayne State was able to pull out the win.
Augustana was led offensively and defensively by junior
Brittany Cech, who posted her second double-double of the season, and the team's third. Cech had a career night on the defensive end as she totalled a career high, 35 digs. Her previous career high came back on Sept. 19, 2013 against Southwest Minnesota State where she was able to grab 24 digs. Offensively Cech tied her career high in kills with 16. This was Cech's fourth time tying her career high in kills. She last had 16 kills against Minnesota Crookston on Nov. 8, 2014.
Following closely behind Cech was
Lauren Waite, who followed up her 21 kill performance against St. Cloud State, with 15 kills against Wayne State. Augustana had two girls with eight kills each,
Ashley Wilson and
Dani Magdzas. As team the Vikings had 57 kills.

Anna Sykora added 14 assists while
Marissa Johnson had five.
Joining Cech with double-digit digs was
Tahlyr Banks, who had 21 in the match. This was Banks eighth time this season reaching at least 20 digs. Following closely behind Banks was
Ivy Pearson who had 18. The team eclipsed the century mark in the match with 107 digs in the four-set affair.
The blocking unit has found their groove of late, blocking at least four attempts in each of the past four matches. The group earned seven blocks against the sixth ranked team in the country.
Dani Magdzas led the team this evening with five total blocks. Wilson and
