No. 23 Augsustana makes history with a 3-0 victory over Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- No. 23 Augustana soccer made history with a 3-0 victory over rival Sioux Falls on Sunday at the USF Sports Complex . The win gives the Vikings a 15-2-1 record on the season, 13-1-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The loss dropped the Cougars to 2-14-1, 1-13-1 in the NSIC.

The 15 wins surpassed the previous record of 14, set by last year's team. The victory also gives Augustana 13 conference wins which breaks last year's record of 12. The Vikings win also gives them seven road wins on the season which surpasses the previous record of six, set back in 2008.

Augustana also secures the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NSIC Tournament and will host a first round game on Wednesday.

The Vikings picked up another point in the First Dakota National Bank Mayor's Cup Challenge between the two schools.

Augustana put all the pressure on in the first half. Kirsten Smith had a chance in the eighth minute with a header from a corner kick, but USF's Morgan Perkins just gets a piece of it to knock it away.

Emily Jacobson puts the Vikings on the board in the 32nd minute when she took a pass from Taylor Brownrigg and took a shot from 25 yards out beating the goalie top left corner to give Augustana a 1-0 lead.

The goal was Jacobson's fourth goal of the season, Brownrigg picked up her second assist of the season on the play.

In the second half, Jacobson would then score her second goal of the season when Stephanie Stevens took a free kick that was blocked and Jacobson would get the rebound and put it home to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.

Augustana would extend the lead to three on a goal from Julie Plonsky in the 89th minute. The goal was Plonsky's first career goal for Augustana, Ally Brown would get her first career assist on the play, Samantha Tymkowicz would also get an assist on the Plonsky goal.

The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday as they host the No. 7 seed in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament at Morstad Field.
