FAYETTE, Iowa - No. 20 Augustana (18-10, 11-9 NSIC) ended the 2015 regular season on a high night Saturday by defeating Upper Iowa (14-15, 8-12 NSIC) 25-21, 19-25, 25-13 and 25-18. The win gives the Vikings the seventh seed in the NSIC tournament, and a date with Southwest Minnesota State.
Augustana followed up one its worst hitting performances of the season with one of its best. The Vikings hit .306 for match, compared to just .141 by Upper Iowa.
The Vikings were led offensively by
Sydney Hunsley who posted a season-high 15 kills against the Peacocks. Hunsley hit .313 for the match. Following closely behind Hunlsey was
Lauren Waite who continues to have a monster second half of the season, she had 14 kills.
Alex Banker led the Vikings in assists for the second consecutive night with 19 for the match. She now has 551 on the season.
Marissa Johnson continues to play late into the season as she posted 16 assists while
Anna Sykora added 13.
Tahlyr Banks excelled on the defensive end once again, coming up with 17 digs. Banks followed closely by
Brittany Cech who had 14 and
Ivy Pearson who had 11.
Augustana earned double-digit blocks for just the sixth time all year. The Vikings 10 total blocks and leading that charge was
Ashley Wilson who had a tied a season-high with seven. Hunsley and Waite each had three total blocks.
Sykora led the Vikings in aces with two while Wilson, Banks and Pearson each had one.
Augustana will now enter postseason play needing a conference championship to earn a spot in the NCAA regionals. The Vikings will open the NSIC tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Southwest Minnesota State at 7 p.m.. The Mustangs swept the Vikings back on Sept. 17 in the team's first conference match of the season.
