MANKATO, Minn.- Augustana soccer, the No. 3 seed, saw their season come to an end Sunday afternoon at the hands of No. 2 seed Minnesota State. The Vikings fell to the Mavericks by the score of 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA Central Region Tournament.
It was an evenly played first half as both team tried to get the one-goal advantage. Augustana outshot Minnesota State 7-6 in the half.
The Mavericks flipped a switch and generated all the pressure at the start of the second half which paid off when Korey Kronforst scored the game winner in the 56th minute to make it 1-0.
The Vikings had chances to try and get the game-tying goal with a chance by
Samantha Tymkowicz in the 84th minute when her shot went just wide of the net.
Kronforst would put the game out of reach of the Vikings in the 85th minute with her second goal of the game.
Augustana ended one of the greatest seasons in program history Sunday. The Vikings finished the season with a 19-3-1 record, 13-1-1 in the NSIC that included the program's first ever NSIC tournament championship and first ever NCAA Tournament victory.
