No. 24 Augustana football set for NCAA Playoff match-up at No. 11 Humboldt State

Augustana is making its fourth playoff appearance in program history, its first since 2010

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 24 Augustana University football (9-2) is set for its Super Region Three match-up in the NCAA Playoffs at No. 11 Humboldt State University (9-1) on Saturday, Nov. 21. The Vikings will travel to Arcata, Calif. to take on the Lumberjacks at the Redwood Bowl at 3 p.m. (CT).
 
Augustana ranked, 24th in the AFCA Top 25 Poll and 21st in the D2football.com Top 25 Poll, is making its fourth NCAA Playoff appearance in program history. Augustana made playoff appearances in 1988, 1989 and most recently in 2010.
 
Augustana enters Saturday's match-up coming off one of the best offensive performances in program history. The Vikings set single game records for points (76) and total offense (751 yards) while Trey Heid threw for a career-high 479 yards and five touchdowns. Heid also ran for 81 yards and a score accounting for 560 yards of total offense which was 13 yards shy of a single game record.
 
Three players went over 1,000 yards for the season in the win with CJ Ham going over 1,000 yards rushing and Charlie Hayes and Matt Heller over 1,000 receiving yards on the year. Heid also set a new single season record for passing yards. He enters Saturday's game having thrown for 3,317 yards and a career-high 28 touchdowns. On Wednesday, Heid was named the NSIC's Offensive Player of the Year alongside head coach Jerry Olszewski who was named the league's coach of the year.
 
Augustana landed 15 players on the All-NSIC team that was announced on Wednesday. The Vikings had seven first team selections, five second team selections and three honorable mention selections.
 
Saturday's game will be the first ever matchup between Augustana and Humboldt State on the football field. Humboldt State won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title in 2015 and will be making the program's first playoff appearance since 1968. HSU head coach Rob Smith was named the GNAC Coach of the Year and the Lumberjacks also have the league's offensive player of the year in Ja'Quan Gardner.
 
Gardner enters Saturday's game as the nation's leading risher with 1,996 yards and 26 rushing touchdowns. He has rushed for 200-plus yards in a game five times this season and headlines an offense that has averaged 44.5 points per game in 2015. The Lumberjacks average 298.4 rushing yards and 194.7 passing yards per game. The HSU defense has allowed just 17.3 points per game and is holding teams to 109.2 rushing yards and 226.0 passing yards per game.
 
The Vikings will counter with the highest scoring offense the NSIC has to offer as Augustana has averaged 42.1 points per game in 2015. Augustana is averaging 477.1 yards of total offense per game, including 165.5 yards on the ground and 311.5 yards through the air.
