Men's basketball concludes non-conference schedule with second straight win in Puerto Rico

BAYAMÓN, Puerto Rico – No. 6 Augustana University men's basketball shot 56 percent from the field in the second half and out-scored American (P.R.) 49-25 in the final 20 minutes on its way to a 93-61 victory on Saturday afternoon at the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamón.
 
Augustana improved to 4-1 on the season with the win and is set to return to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play next weekend. The Vikings will host Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul Dec. 4-5 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
  
Senior forward Casey Schilling registered his second double-double in as many nights finishing with a season-high 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds. He threatened a triple-double adding five assists on the night. Schilling has recorded three double-doubles this season and 24 in his career.  
 
Daniel Jansen put up 20-plus points for the second straight game, third time this season, finishing with 20 to go along with five rebounds.
 
Augustana had eight players with six or more points in the game this afternoon. Jordan Spencer scored seven points and dished out six assists marking is fifth straight game with five or more assists on the year.
 
Zach Huisken added seven points and a season-high seven rebounds off the bench for the Vikings while Alex Richter pitched in with seven points and five rebounds. Matthew Brazendale, Marcus Asmus and Tanner Odegaard each finished the night with six points.
 
Augustana built a 44-36 lead at the half behind 14 points and seven rebounds by Schilling in the first half. The Vikings shot 48.4 percent in the half hitting 15 of 31 from the field, including 4 of 13 3-pointers.
 
Augustana heated up in the second half connecting on 18 of 32 shots from the field (56.3 percent) and finished the game shooting 52.4 percent. The Vikings finished the game hitting 8 of 22 from 3-point range as the Vikings were held under 10 3-pointers for just the first time this season.
 
Augustana forced American (P.R.) into 18 turnovers in the game and turned that into 24 points but the Vikings took control of the game on the glass, out-rebounding American 50-26 grabbing 15 offensive boards. Augustana dished out 28 assists in the game with 10 of 14 players getting credit for an assist.
 
The Vikings concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule going 2-0 in Puerto Rico. Augustana will return to NSIC play this weekend hosting Minnesota State on Friday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Vikings will close-out the weekend hosting Concordia-St. Paul at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
