Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Vikings winning streak comes to an end Saturday night at the hands of Minnesota Crookston

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana women's basketball team (8-2, 3-2 NSIC) saw their five game winning streak come to an end Saturday night, as they fell to NSIC foe, the University of Minnesota Crookston (6-3, 3-2 NSIC) 76-57 in their second game, of the two game road trip.

After a close first half, Vikings only trailed by just four at the break, the Golden Eagles clamped down on defense and held the Vikings to just 22 second half points. A 10-3, UMC run to open up the 4th quarter, put the game out of reach for Augustana.

Role Reversal

It is normally the Vikings that are shooting above 40 percent from behind the 3-point arc, but Saturday the tables were turned.

Minnesota Crookston out shot Augustana from deep, as they were 13-of-27, 48 percent from long range, compared to just 14 percent on 3-of-21 shooting for the Vikings.

This was just the second time all season that Augustana has been out shot from behind the arc.

By The Numbers

Senior Nicole Kerkhoff led the way offensively for Augustana with 12 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Kerkhoff came up just shy of a double-double with six rebounds.

Junior Sydney Rome was the only other Viking to reach double-figures, as she was able to score 10-points for the game. Rome was 4-of-8 from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the 3-point arc.

Augustana earned 34 points in the paint and 24 came from their bench. The leading score off the bench was sophomore Presley O'Farrell who had seven.

Minnesota Crookston's Katrina Nordick earned the game's only double-double as she had 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Up Next

Augustana will host Wayne State College on Saturday Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. in their final game before the Christmas break. Following the break they will host Midland University on Dec. 29.
