Augustana track and field set for NCAA Championships

Storylines
• Augustana College track and field qualified nine athletes to compete at the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 13-14.
• The Vikings qualified eight women with two competing in the women's high jump. The women's 4x400 relay team also qualified for the NCAA Championships. 
Bree Woelber looks to cap off her stellar junior season in the women's high jump and women's pentathlon. Woelber currently ranks third in the nation with 3,892 points in the pentathlon which automatically qualified her for nationals.
Irene Almarcha looks to dominate the women's 60-meter hurdles already breaking her own record three times this season, earning a spot to nationals with a time of 8.62.
Kayla Mescher will look to dominate the women's 800-meter run after previously setting a new Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record.
• Leah Seivert will make her first appearance at nationals competing in the women's 3k and 5k.

• Representing the men is Paul Yak as the only male that will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the NCAA Championship to compete in the 5,000-meter run.
• Augustana is coming off top-five finishes at the NSIC Indoor Championships and brought home three individual event titles.

Meet the qualifiers: Nine athletes travel to Birmingham
• Augustana's nine athletes will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 13-14.
• Beginning with the transfer from Iowa State, Woelber looks capture a national title in the women's pentathlon, ranking third in the nation. 
• A junior from Pipestone, Minn. Woelber won the NSIC women's pentathlon which automatically qualified her for nationals with a new school record of 3,892 points.
• Woelber will also compete in the women's high jump clearing 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9.25 inches) at the NSIC Championships on Feb. 28.
• Joining Woelber in the women's high jump is junior Kelsey Kaufmann of Arlington, S.D.
• Kaufmann took home a third place finish at the USD Twilight on Feb. 20 which qualified her for the NCAA Championships with a clearance of 1.73 meters (5 feet, 8 inches), ranking 12th in the nation.
• This will be the second NCAA Championship meet appearance for Kaufmann who also doubles as an outside/right-side hitter for the Augustana volleyball team.
• The women's high jump is scheduled to start at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
• A Sevilla, Spain native Almarcha logged the 12th-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62 at the NSIC Championships two weeks ago.
• The sophomore has beat her record three different times this season currently holding the new Augustana record.
• An Brighton, Colo. native, Mescher's personal-best 2:13.00 mark is ranked 11th in the nation.
• Mescher took the top mark in the women's 800-meter run, on her way to a new NSIC record to beat Wayne State's Paige Pollard's 2012 record by 1.08 seconds.
• The women's 4x400 relay team recorded the 10th fastest-qualifying mark of the 13-team field.
• The Viking squad of Carina Hofmeister, Charissa Etrheim, Mescher, and Anne Parsley converted a time of 3:47.41 at the NSIC Championships this past weekend.
• Sophomore Almarcha will be the alternate for the women's 4x400 team.
• Making her NCAA Championship debut is freshman Seivert who will run the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter for the Vikings.
• Seivert ranks 20th in the 3k with a time of 9:49.54 earned at the NSIC Championships on Feb. 28 in Mankato, Minn.
• Hailing from Sibley, Iowa Seivert will also compete in the women's 5k after clocking a time of 17:08.13 also at the NSIC Championships, which ranks 14th in the nation.
• Yak will be the only male that will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the men's 5,000-meter run.
• Yak a native of Storm Lake, Iowa holds the Augustana record in the 5k qualifying with a time of 14:29.29 at the prestigious Nebraska Tune-Up on Feb. 20. 
• The men's 5k is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. on Friday.

Three titles won at NSIC Championships earning top-five finishes
• Making their case as the third-best team in the NSIC, the women's team tallied two individual titles on their way to a runner-up finish at the conference meet two weeks ago in Mankato, Minn.
• The men were picked to finish second by the league coaches in the preseason poll, but closed out the NSIC Championships with a fourth-place finish.
• Minnesota State collected their fourth consecutive men's title with 163 points and the University of Mary captured the women's title with a 142-point mark.
CJ Ham was the only Viking on the men's side to tab a first-place finish. Ham dominated the weighted throw taking the top mark with a heave of 18.34 meters (60 feet, 2 inches) to put the Vikings on the board with 10 points on day one.
• Two titles on day two for the women placed second with a 119-point total. Mescher and Parsley both took the top marks in their respective events. Mescher clocked a time of 2:13.00 to set a new NSIC record in the 800-meter run, while Parsley finished with a time of 1:34.67 in the 600-meter run.
• For the third time this season. Almarcha set a new school record in the women's 60-meter hurdles, finishing second provisionally qualifying with a time of 8.62 seconds. Calliann Brunswig set a personal-best mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.05 for an eighth-place finish. Woelber took eighth with a time of 9.13.

Woelber named NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year
• Junior Bree Woelber was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after helping the Vikings to a second-place finish at the NSIC Indoor Championships taking first in the pentathlon. 
• Woelber set a new school record and took home the NSIC Pentathlon title with an NCAA automatic qualifying score of 3892 points, which ranks third in the nation.
• Woelber clocked a time of 8.98 in the 60-meter hurdles, followed by lunging 5.54 meters (18 feet, 9 inches) in the long jump, which ranks fourth in the NSIC, to take first to head into the next event.
• The Pipestone, Minn. native dominated the next two events starting with a toss of 11.79 meters (38 feet, 8.25 inches) in the shot put. In the high jump, nobody would come close to Woelber as she recorded an new NSIC record jump of 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9.25 inches) earning 181 more points than the next competitor. 
• Woelber closed out competition in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.14 to capture the top mark in the women's pentathlon and become the new NSIC Indoor Women's Pentathlon Champion.
