CLERMONT, Fla. – No. 25 Augustana softball went 2-0 on its first day of an eight-game trip to the Sunshine State picking up wins over Dominican (N.Y.) and Ferris State. The Vikings opened the day with an 11-1 over Dominican before taking down Ferris State 9-1.
In the opener against Domincan, the Vikings grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run home run by
Jenelle Trautmann. Trautmann hit two home runs against the Chargers, including a three-run shot in the third inning. Trautmann has now hit seven home runs this season and 62 in her career putting her in a tie for third all-time in NCAA Division II history.
Sarah Kennedy and
Maddie Merriam also hit home runs in the win over Dominican as the Vikings scored 11 runs on 12 hits in the victory.
In the win over Ferris State, the Vikings grabbed a 3-0 lead on a three-run home run by
Caitlin Nichol in the second.
Jordan Schaffer hit a grand slam in the fourth inning that gave the Vikings an 8-0 lead. Kennedy drove in the ninth run in the fifth and Ferris State picked up its lone run of the day in the sixth for the final tally of 9-1.
The Vikings continue the trip with a pair of games on Monday. Augustana will take on Molloy at 10 a.m. (CT) before playing Minot State in non-conference action at 12 p.m. (CT).
