BOX SCORE

CLERMONT, Fla. –
No. 25 Augustana softball defeated Wayne State University (Mich.) 2-0 behind a nine strikeout pitching performance by senior Jenelle Trautmann. The Vikings improved to 12-4 with the win and will play their final two games of the eight-game trip tomorrow afternoon.

Trautmann improved to 6-1 on the season after tossing the complete-game shutout giving up just four hits while striking out a season-high nine. She also hit her eighth home run of the season going 1 for 3 at the plate. She has now hit 63 career home runs moving her into third all-time in NCAA Division II history.

Sarah Kennedy kept her hit streak alive, extending it to 21 games going 2 for 3 with an RBI. The Vikings finished the game with eight hits while Caitlin Nichol finished 2 for 3 and was hit by a pitch.

Augustana left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning and quickly loaded them again in the bottom of the second. Kennedy drove in the first run of the game on a single to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Trautmann then flew out to left to end the inning and the Vikings would leave the bases full for the second straight inning.

The pitchers dug in over the next 2.5 innings before the Vikings took a 2-0 lead on Trautmann's eighth home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the fifth.

Trautmann then went to work in the circle slamming the door just on the Warriors setting them down in order in the sixth and seventh.

Augustana will conclude its eight-game trip to Clermont, Fla. with two more games on Wednesday. The Vikings will take on New York Institute of Technology at 10 a.m. (CT) before squaring-off with Saint Michael's at 2 p.m. (CT).
