GAME TWO TUCSON, Ariz. – The Augustana baseball kept its unbeaten record on the spring trip intact on Friday, taking both contests (13-12, 15-2) against Valley City at the Kino Sports Complex. The Vikings' record improved to 8-6, while VCSU dropped to 12-11 on the year.
Augustana is now 8-0 with one game remaining on the trip.
Game OneLucas Barry delivered the late-game heroics with a two-out two-run single to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the win.
Alex Fink (1-0) was credited with the win, coming in a relief role. Fink went 1.0 innings, giving up one run on hit.
Jack Goihl smacked his third home run of the year, part of a 2-for-5 game at the plate.
Valley City State was able to get out to a two-run lead after the top of the first inning thanks to a hot start at the plate that resulted in three hits by the top of order.
The Vikings countered by getting one run in the bottom half of the inning on a solo shot by Goihl with two outs, making it a 2-1 ballgame.
VCSU continued its fast start with another two-run inning in the top of the second, capped off by an Anthony Necochea single to left center that drove in a run.
A two-run double by
Justin Warne tied things up at 4-4 in the bottom half of the second, giving the junior his sixth RBI on the season. Warne's double was part of a three-run inning at the plate for Augustana, which got a run the next batter with
Marcus O'Neill's single to center to score Warne.
Valley City State erupted for sevens run in the top half of the fourth to take an 11-4 lead. VCSU got its seven runs on six hits.
Trailing 11-5 in the bottom of the seventh, and down to their final three outs, the Vikings showed their resolve, scoring six runs to tie the contest up at 11 all.
Jacob James provided the some magic late with a two-out game-tying single to right field that scored
Alex Beals.
Using the momentum gained by the big seventh inning at the plate, Augustana delivered the knockout blow and completed the comeback in the bottom half of the eighth with a clutch hit with two outs by Barry -- in to pinch hit -- that drove in two runs to give the Vikings the 13-12 victory.
Game TwoAfter a furious comeback in the first game, Augustana put away Valley City State quickly in the nightcap, using a 10-run barrage in the top of the second to power a 15-run day at the plate en route to the win.
The win pushed the Vikings' winning streak to eight, all coming while in Tucson.
Ryne Lees (2-0) got his second win of the year with three quality innings. Lees gave up just one run on two hits and had six strikeouts.
James tied his season high, set in game one, with three hits. The sophomore's four RBI were a new career high.
Augustana's 18 hits tied its season high on the year. The 15 runs scored marked the third straight game it has scored in double figures.

Bryce Berg capped off the monstrous inning at the plate for Augustana.
Two final runs in the top half of the seventh inning brought the Vikings' total to 15 in game, their second highest total on the year.
Augustana closes out its spring trip with a nine-inning game against Mayville State on Wednesday at 11 a.m. CT.
