No. 24 Augustana softball wins seventh straight with victory over No. 16 Central Oklahoma

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. –
No. 24 Augustana softball won its seventh straight game with a 4-2 victory over No. 16 Central Oklahoma (20-7) on Saturday morning at the Missouri Western Tournament. The Vikings (17-4) trailed 1-0 headed before taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth only to see UCO tie the game at in the top of the sixth.
 
The Vikings got a big two-RBI single by Jordan Schaffer that proved to be the game-winning hit in the bottom of the sixth.  
 
Jenelle Trautmann delivered another strong performance in the circle striking out eight batters while allowing just two hits in six innings of work. Trautmann struck out eight batters and picked up her 10th win of the season to improve to 10-1.
 
Carley Pickett added to her nation-leading save total picking up her fourth of the season and 17th of her career. Pickett is now just one save away from tying the school record of 18 which was set by Chelsey Durland (2009-12).
 
Central Oklahoma took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by Ashleigh Tramel.
 
Trautmann and Kelsey Berlin then locked in to quite the pitcher's duel. Trautmann held the Bronchos hitless over the next three innings and the Vikings picked up their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth but hit into an inning-ending double play.
 
Augustana got on the board in the bottom of the fifth and took a 2-1 lead on a two-out two-run home run by Pickett.
 
UCO tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth on a two-out RBI double by Morgan Heard.
 
Mackenzie Alstott led off the bottom of the sixth with a double and Trautmann walked to put two runners on with one out. Schaffer then came up with a clutch two-RBI single to put the Vikings ahead 4-2.
 
Pickett came into the game in the top of the seventh and pitched around an error and a hit batter to secure the win for the Vikings and pick up her fourth save of the season.
 
Augustana returns to action at 2 p.m. today taking on Missouri Western.
