SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University football will open NSIC South Division play hosting Southwest Minnesota State University (4-0) on Saturday at Kirkeby-Over Stadium. The Vikings (3-1) went 3-1 in cross-divisional games and will close-out a two-game homestand when the Mustangs visit Sioux Falls. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Augustana and SMSU will meet for the 20th time since the first ever meeting between the two teams in 1990. The Vikings are 16-3 all-time against the Mustangs and have won 17 of the last 18 meetings between the two teams. Augustana won 15 straight games over SMSU from 1995 to 2012. The Mustangs snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Vikings defeating Augustana 34-24 at Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Nov. 16, 2013.
Last season, Augustana defeated SMSU 47-3 in Marshall, Minn. in the season finale for both teams. Augustana got back into the win column last Saturday, defeating Minot State at home 41-17. The Vikings got off to a fast start against the Beavers, taking a 28-7 halftime lead behind a big day from senior running back
Justin Greenway.
Greenway finished the game with 212 all-purpose yards, including 82 rushing and 76 receiving yards while returning two kicks for 53 yards. Greenway rushed for a career-high two touchdowns while
CJ Ham and
Matt Heller each had a multiple touchdown day.
Ham rushed 15 times for 81 yards and a score while also catching five passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Heller hauled in four passes for 61 yards and two scores for the Vikings.
Defensively, Augustana has not allowed a team to rush for 100 yards on the season after holding Minot State to just 73 rushing yards last weekend. The Viking defense is holding teams to just 84.0 rushing yards per contest in 2015.
