Topeka, Kan. - Augustana Volleyball (1-1) fell to 14th ranked Washburn (2-0) in the second match of the Washburn Invitational Friday night in five sets, by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25 and 10-15.

Sophomore setter, Alex Banker led the Vikings with 26 assists, helping redshirt freshman outside hitter, Lauren Waite to a team high 16 kills. Junior setter Anna Sykora add 20 assists while Brittany Cech had 13 kills of her own.
The Vikings Middle unit doubled their block total of six from match one to 12 against Washburn. Leading the Vikings block party was junior middle hitter, Becca Finley with six total blocks. Senior Sydney Hunsley added five total blocks, two solo, while junior Kelsey Kaufmann added another four blocks to the team total.

Sophomore libero, Tahlyr Banks ended the night with an even 50 digs. Banks' 50 digs earns her a spot in the NCAA record books at 16th for total number of digs in a five-set match. It is also an Augustana record for digs in a match.. Also with double-digit digs for the Vikings was Cech with 13 and Banker with 10. Senior Setter, Marissa Johnson added nine assists and four digs. The Vikings as a team had three service aces, 104 digs and 12 total blocks.

The Vikings started out strong, only trailing once in the first two sets and that was in set one by a score of 4-5. After trailing the Vikings went on to score 10 of the next 12 points before pulling out the set win 25-17.
Augustana picked up right where the left of in set one winning eight of the first 10 points before the Ichabods rallied late to pull within one lat in the set. A Washburn service error would give the Vikings a 25-23 set win.

Sets three, four and five all ended within five points of each other: 22-25 in set three, 23-25 in set four and 10-15 in set five. The Vikings fell behind early in sets three and four before mounting late rallies that would come up just short. Set five was another back-and-forth battle. The Vikings hung with the 14th ranked Ichabods throughout before losing a close one 10-15.
